What inspired you to write about a fiction based on music?

VoiceMates is indeed a musical novel, though I used music (singing) just to give an example of a non-traditional career and the mind-set which elders have towards these kinds of career options. Like, when I told everyone that I want to be a writer, everyone opposed and suggested me to continue with my high-paid radio job. They said that it was a big risk and I was keeping my career at stake. But I took that risk and reached that this point that I am sharing my experiences with such great blogs like yours. And of- course, reality shows are 1 way for common people to make their dreams come true. For others its just a show but for participants, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance. So, to share my message with everyone, I thought music would be the best way and therefore, I took this subject.

Do you have a soft spot for music?

Oh yes, of-course! I am a big music lover. I think music has a power to heal every wound and can change you as a person.

What comes easier; characters or storyline?

Characters come easier. Actually I should say, first comes the character then storyline.

Given a chance to write biography? Whom would you choose?

I’d write on Agatha Christie. Her life story is really empowering and inspiring.

There are so many contemporary writers. Do you feel pressurized to excel?

Not at all! Reason being is, I never take any writer as my competitor. They are doing their job, I am doing mine. I write what is inside me, my heart and mine. When I am not taking anything from others, why would I feel pressurized?

You are a journalist. What upper hand does it provides in having a successful career in writing?

Only benefit is I know how to talk and communicate with masses. You see, I am masters in journalism and mass communication’ And communication is always the best way to win people’s heart. The more you talk, the more people know you! Simple!

Who is personally your favorite character in “Voicemates”, Sam or Tulip and Why?

Sam is my favorite character. He is cool, good looking, dependable, plays guitar, an amazing singer and of-course passionate about his career.

Is there any personal element weaved in “Voicemates”?

Ummm… no! Only, the songs I used in the novel are all my favorite.

Which is your favorite genre in writing?

General fiction (contemporary romance)

Recently I finished reading The Third Coin by J. A. Howard

A story begins with an idea or thought. How was it for “Voicemates”?

It begins with my own experience. What I learned from the challenges I faced when I chose a non-traditional career, fighting the fear of failure, convincing parents, that pressure of do or die, that importance of taking 1 chance… came VoiceMates!

What inspires you to be a passionate writer?

I believe inspiration is all around us, the people, the nature, the on-going trends, everything inspires me.

Given circumstances would you like to change any part in “Voicemates”?

No!

Tell us about yourself Shivangi? What do you do in your free time? What are your hobbies?

I am a romance novel addict, and an ardent lover of chocolates with nuts. After qualifying UGC NET, I started teaching English in a PG college for girls. I am an extremely lazy person. I hate dressing up for parties, and other social events. Being a devoted caffeine junkie, I love visiting coffee shops and bistros in my free time. I am a woman of varied interests. I love reading, writing, shopping, and going on long drives with my mystery man.

Tell us a little about “Passionate Love” and Its Characters?

Passionate Love is a contemporary romance. It is the love story of a lifestyle journalist, and a multimillionaire tech wizard.

What inspired you to write about this particular genre?

I grew up reading Mills and Boon books. A Passionate Affair by Anne Mather was the first romance that I read in my teens. I fell in love with its hero at first sight. He was sexy, sharp, witty, and hopelessly in love with the heroine of the novel. He made me want to write a love story of my own.

Is this novel purely fictional or does it have some real people?

My novel is purely a work of fiction.

Are you attached emotionally to the characters you portrayed, Specially Ambika?

I am deathly fond of both my hero and heroine. I got goose bumps every time Ayaan and Ambika exchanged a tender kiss.

What was the first reaction of your close people when you started this novel?

My mother was ecstatic. She threw a huge party in a luxury hotel the day my book was launched. My students were shocked to know that their super strict teacher had written a love story. They couldn’t stop giggling in my class. I had tears in my eyes when the entire class of BA FY gave me a Mont Blanc pen.

If you would dedicate this idea of novel who it would be?

I would dedicate this book to all those hot M&B men, I was obsessed with as an adolescent. Jay Raveck of A Passionate Affair, and Jake Radley-Smith of His Untamed Innocent merit special mention.

During framing the novel, were you confident about it? This is your debut novel. Was it challenging?

It wasn’t the first time that I was writing something. I had already written for a number of  national newspapers before I started working on my debut romance novel. So, I didn’t feel any jitters. But I was a little apprehensive about the feedback.

Are you planning to write its sequel or the same idea with another story?

Oh yes! Being an incorrigible matchmaker, I want to see Ambika Rana’s best friend and colleague Priya Rai walk down the aisle. The opening scene of The Devil in Velvet will show Ayaan and Ambika locked in a passionate embrace,  mooning for each other like newly weds. Ambika’s baby bump will be another shocker.

Is there any difference in your life after being a writer?

Being in touch with like-minded people has been the biggest boon.

What would you have been if not a writer?

A commercial pilot.

Have you faced rejections for this particular novel from editors & publishers?

Nope. But I did change my publisher due to delay in printing of the book.

When you see people commenting or reviewing (positive and negative) your novel how do you feel?

I feel motivated to work harder.

Never settle for anything less than what you deserve. You all are meant to have extraordinary lives.

Sudeep Nagarkar is a best selling author of ‘Few Things Left Unsaid’, ‘That’s the Way We Met’ and ‘It Started with A Friend Request’. His all three books are topping the bestseller charts from the day of release. He was listed as one of the ‘Celebrity authors of 2013’. Now his fourth novel ‘Sorry You’re Not My Type’ is going to be published in the month of love, February. The book is up for pre-booking and even before the release, it’s already making some news on the bestseller lists of all online portals. We got a chance to interact with him and hence we told him to share with us some insights of his book and this is what he had to say:

It’s said if your love is true then it will return. But none told what if your love doesn’t return ever. So I found my own way and wrote “Few things left unsaid” in search of my lost love. The journey till “Sorry You’re Not My Type” (SYNMT) was fruitful.

In 2013 September, I visited Delhi for book tour of “It started with a friend request”. Once done, I had gone for a party with my close friend Sakshi in Miabella which is located in Hauz Khaz Village, Delhi. If she would not have taken me there, SYNMT would not have come into existence. Sakshi had decided this lounge as the manager ‘Anuj’ was her good friend.

The voice of the singer who was performing live at the lounge on the guitar mesmerized me. Anuj told me that he was once a part of most reupted college band in Delhi named VAYU and his name is Vikrant. I became curious to know what made him sing at a lounge despite being a part of such a famous band. Every person has a story to tell. Some live forever and some die young. I wanted to know the story behind VAYU. Anuj convinced Vikrant to unfold the pages of his life.

Yes, it’s a true story of love and friendship. The most difficult thing to explain in life is the simplest truth called love. Vikrant had gone through so much that at a point he could have lost all his friends. But he was a fighter. That night not only taught me new ways to live life but also gave life to my fourth book. Thanks to Anamika who permitted me to proceed with it. Vikrant had kept few conditions in front of me and I had to follow that while writing. There are certain incidents in the book which are kept hidden keeping in mind feelings of that particular person as that person who walked to the dead end in his life.

The strong message that is conveyed is value relationship and never give up on your dream. Happiness is a whore who breathes in your ear and before you know it, you’re spreading your legs for her. She lures you into the feeling and then rapes you!! But when your passion and purpose is greater than your fears, you find a way to overcome them.

Another message that is conveyed is ‘Say no to jealousy. It changes the nature of your relationship.’ Everybody has gone through something that has changed them in a way that they could never go back to the person they once were!

SYNMT will imbalance all your emotions be it romance or friendship or simply love!! It’s not a romantic saga but a story happening around you in your college campus!!

Vikrant, Anamika and Yuvi will redefine friendship, affection and infatuation!! In every boy’s life, there is a girl he’ll never forget and in every girl’s life, there is a boy she’ll never forget!!

I promise that readers/fans will have a smile when they close the book after enjoying the ride of life.

Sudeep Nagarkar is an Indian Writer and Speaker. He launched his first novel in July 2011, it was inspired from his own life. Now he is the author of two best selling novels “Few Things Left Unsaid” and “Thats the Way We Met”. And his third novel “It started with a friend request” has been published in July 2013. Everyone is loving it. I also read the “ISWFR” and i really loved it.  So let’s listen to the author of “It started with a friend request”.

“It Started with a Friend Request” is a novel which portrays today’s generation who’s glued to the social networks, your characters, are they the same?
If you read the book, you will realize that the book is not related or inspired from social networks. Our definition of friend request has changed. When in school or college you used to shake hands of friendship even that started with a friend request. Not necessarily, social networking. My characters in the book meet through BlackBerry Messenger and then their life story begins. It will make you realize love and friendship like never before.

Inspirations come from real incidents, what do you prefer a real truth based writing or adding fictional part for the sake of novel?
Fiction novel based on reality. My all 3 books are inspired from real life incidents.

Many stories don’t have a perfect ending, what if you came up to such a situation?
I think my book answers this question when Aditya comes to a situation where everything is messed up. My stories are based on my life and inspired from my failure in relationship.

If the characters are real of your novel, how do they react when you came up with the portrayal of the novel?
I still don’t see myself as an author. It’s love of readers and their appreciation that they have sold more than 3 lakh copies in all. My friends who are portrayed as characters in the book were stiff but I had to convince them by bribing them too sometimes. But overall it is a great experience to interact with them.

There is a flood of love stories; do you think your story would find a place as a genuine writing piece?
All 3 books are stable and sitting comfortably on bestseller charts. So obviously they are appreciated by the readers. Though there are many love stories in the market with similar story line maybe, but what matters is the way you narrate a story and fill it with your emotions.

An engineer, experiences a lot of reality check during his graduation regarding career and relationships, have you added that experiences in your novels?
Yes, ‘Few things left unsaid’ has all such experiences in it during my college days while ‘That’s the way we met’ has all my corporate experience along with my love story.

How did your close people see you, As a writer?
They don’t feel anything about it. Probably because they have seen me in all phases of my life. From failure to success. They do guide me and help me to be down to earth. Their honesty towards me is my strength.
